»Die Panamericana ist die Straße, die Amerika von Alaska nach Patagonien durchquert. Einen Teil davon bin ich jeden Sommer mit dem Bus oder Auto von Arica nach Santiago (2000 km) gefahren.
Diese Reise durch die Atacama-Wüste ist der Schauplatz einer fragmentarischen Geschichte, die über Identität, Familie, die Reise als Prozess und den Wunsch nach Zugehörigkeit reflektiert.«
Cristóbal Schmal (geb. 1977 in Arica, Chile) ist ein freischaffender bildender Künstler. Vom Grafikdesign kommend, arbeitete er 7 Jahre lang für verschiedene Studios in Barcelona, bevor er 2008 nach Berlin zog und sich ganz auf seine Leidenschaft, die Illustration, konzentrierte. Seitdem arbeitet er für verschiedene Kunden und Medien wie die New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Greenpeace, Lufthansa, Taschen und andere, wobei er zwischen digitalen und analogen Techniken wechselt.
Cristóbal lebt und arbeitet mit seiner Familie auf dem Land in Deutschland.
Die Eröffnung am 28. Juli beginnt um 19 Uhr.
Die Ausstellung kann bis zum 26. August besucht werden.

They are part of a work in progress, which aims to weave together travel diary, family stories about exile and loss.
»Panamericana is the road that crosses America from Alaska to Patagonia. A part of it I traveled every summer from Arica to Santiago (2000 km) by bus or car.

Cristóbal Schmal (b. 1977 Arica, Chile) is a freelance visual artist. Coming from graphic design he worked for different studios in Barcelona for 7 years before fully shifting his focus to his passion illustration when moving to Berlin in 2008. Since then he works for different clients and media such as The New York Times, LA Times, Washington Post, Greenpeace, Lufthansa, Taschen amongst others, switching between digital and analogue techniques.
Cristóbal lives and works with his family at the countryside in Germany.
The opening on July 28, starts at 7 pm.
The exhibition can be visited until August 26.
